Meet Your Presenters….
Associate Professor David Smith

David is a Research Fellow and cancer epidemiologist at the Cancer Council NSW. He has a particular focus on prostate cancer, prostate cancer testing and prostate cancer outcomes in Australia.David works in the Health Services Research Program of the Cancer Research Division.He is chief investigator and project manager of the NSW Prostate Cancer Care and Outcomes Study (PCOS). This longitudinal study involving 2500 men examined quality of life after prostate cancer diagnosis along with PSA testing, coping styles, supportive care needs and the economics of prostate cancer management. In 2011 he obtained a National Health and Medical Research Council Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship to study the causes of death in men with prostate cancer. He is also currently chief investigator on two NHMRC project grants, one Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia Grant and one partnership grant. Associate Professor Peter Grimison

Peter is currently Staff Specialist in Medical Oncology at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney; Visiting Medical Officer at Royal Prince Alfred and Dubbo Base Hospitals; and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney. His clinical work focuses on testicular cancer, other genito-urinary cancers, and upper gastro-intestinal cancers. He is involved as germ cell subcommittee chair, member of the scientific advisory committee, trial management committee member, and site principal investigator in several national and international trials for the Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prosta te Cancer Trials Group, whose coordinating centre is based at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre of the University of Sydney. He is also involved as an active member and site Principal Investigator in clinical trials for the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group; and site Principal Investigator for industry sponsors. He serves as a member of the Australian Government Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee, and a number of other Federal and NSW Government committees. He is also committed to teaching as coordinator of Advanced Training in Medical Oncology at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, and also actively teaches in Basic Physician Training and the University of Sydney Medical Program.
